Flying Angel was made by the celebrated artist, Virginia Black, who became famous for her character dolls beginning in the 1950s. Since each of her dolls was handmade, very few were created are those that were are rarely found today. Their value as collectible dolls soared when Ms. Black's work went on national display in the Rosalie Whyle Museum of Doll Art's 1998 tour of Virginia Black's Whimsical Cloth Dolls. Personally signed Virginia Black on the underside, this heavenly figure also bears her original paper tag reading An Original by Virginia Black with the identification AN4.
Measuring 9 inches long and 5 inches tall, this brown eyed beauty may be conventionally displayed or suspended mid air. In mint condition, Flying Angel has a soft stuffed body and wears a white, satin brocade gown. A wide width of delicate lace trims the neck and bottom. Her stockinet face is excellent, having a dainty, sculpted nose and hand painted expressive features. Under her gold braid halo, her blonde curls have the look of mohair. Her nicely shaped wings were made from felt.
